9 Cheap Date Night Ideas

1. Make a Nice Meal and Rent a Movie

Drop the kids off at Grandma and Grandpa’s or agree to swap childcare with a friend for an evening and make a nice meal at home. Pick something you might order at a fancy restaurant and try to make it together. Share a bottle of cheap wine and rent a movie from Redbox.

2. Go Out for Coffee and Dessert

If dinner out isn’t in the budget, consider going out for coffee and dessert somewhere instead. You’ll still get out of the house and have a chance to talk in an intimate setting but the cost is a lot less than a full blown meal.

3. Bowling

Renting a lane and a couple pairs of shoes at the bowling alley is fun and affordable. Make a bet, loser does all the dishes for a week, etc. Grab a pitcher of beer, share a pizza, and spend a couple of bucks in the arcade. You’re never too old to have fun like a kid!

4. Mini Golf

I forgot how much fun mini golf was until we went out to play just the two of us recently. I don’t think we’d been since back in high school (Yes, we’ve been together that long)! Inexpensive, fun, and you get to be a little competitive. What more could you want from a cheap date night? Can you tell we like to try to beat each other at anything and everything? 🙂

5. Wine Tasting

Check out your local winery, farm market or specialty store for free wine tasting events. Get dressed up. Sip a little, schmooze a little, take a tour, listen to some live music and take home a bottle of your favorite for later.

6. Free Festivals or Music Events

Check your local community page (and those of surrounding communities) for free festivals, concerts or local events. Stop at a food truck, listen to some live music and take in the local scene. Dance in the street, grab an ice cream (just don’t tell the kids!).

7. Attend a Local Sporting Event

Head out to a high school football game or other sporting event on a Friday night. Grab a warm blanket, some popcorn and a hot cocoa, and cheer on your local team.

8. Fun Run

If being active together is something you like to do, consider signing up for a fun run, obstacle course or other physical challenge and train together. Make it a weekly thing until you reach your goal or event date. Celebrate with a beer afterward.

9. Take a Hike and Pack a Picnic

Feeling outdoorsy? Why not pack a picnic and hit a local trail? Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, taking a hike out in nature is a great way to spend some quality quiet time with your significant other, burn off energy and enjoy a bit of an adventure together too.
